Bolsas de Bendición

The women’s ministry at Iglesia Bíblica Bautista started a ministry to reach out to new mothers.  Unlike the experience that women have in the US, here in Ecuador, women do not receive anything from the hospitals with then have a baby… there are no free samples of formula or diapers.  No baby products at all.  In fact, it is the families responsibility to provide all the things the mother and baby will need during their hospital stay.

So we got the idea, to make small “diaper bags” and receiving blankets.  The women in t he class are donating newborn diapers, and other products that are sorted out and shared in the bags.  Each bag gets 4 diapers, a receiving blanket and one other item.  There is a little rattle that is attached with tag.  The reads, “Congratulations on your new baby!” on the front, and on the back, “This is a gift from Iglesia Bíblica Bautista”.

We started out giving them to new Mom’s at the local “Social Security Hospital” here in town.  We were invited to go there once a month.   We have also been asked to go to a  government Health Clinic in a poor neighborhood once a week.  There we have been asked to share a message and hand out the bags.  Since there are children of all ages in this clinic, we are expanding our outreach to include multiple ages, and giving the bags to Mom’s with new babies and also to expectant Moms.   We would like to have a small gift to give out to all the children and their Mom’s who listen to a brief gospel message.  Doors are opening up and we are stepping through them.  I honestly don’t know how we will keep up with the demand of going weekly, BUT, I am trusting God to provide.  We have enough for this week, and I know that God will provide exactly what we need when we need it.

Here are few photos of some of the things going into the bags, and also of the women putting them together the first time.

These bags and the receiving blankets are costing about $3.00 each for the fabric.  The women are donating their time and talent to sew them.  The other items are all donated.
